Nagasaki City holds the Nagasaki Lantern Festival every year from late January to February as an event to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival. During the festival, following the custom of decorating lanterns (Chinese paper lanterns) for the Chinese Lantern Festival, Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown as well as Hamamachi and the Tourist Street Arcade in the city center are decorated with brilliantly colored lanterns.
Therefore, at "THE CLUB NAGASAKI" on the 14th floor of Stadium City Hotel Nagasaki, we will be holding a Chinese face-changing show by a traditional Chinese performer, "Henmanshi", in the spirit of lanterns. Please enjoy the Chinese face-changing show, which is full of speed and you never know when the expressions will change, with each mask expressing joy, anger, sadness, and happiness. Lantern decorations are being carried out within Nagasaki Stadium City, so please experience the lanterns throughout the Stadium City.

China has many traditional performing arts, but they can be broadly divided into two types: Beijing Opera and Sichuan Opera. Face-changing belongs to Sichuan Opera, and due to its popularity, it is now performed independently. Face-changing involves changing into over 10 masks in an instant, with each mask having a meaning and representing a man, woman, or animal god. The performer also expresses movements and emotions according to the mask. The mechanism behind the face-changing is kept secret and is designated as a national intangible cultural asset of China. The face-changing artists who perform Honda Face-Changing are two members of the Japan-China Sichuan Opera Face-Changing Association and Kuran. Please enjoy this Chinese face-changing show, which is full of speed and you never know when the expressions on each mask will change, expressing joy, anger, sadness, and happiness.
