Japanet Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture / President and CEO: Asahito Takada) has decided to invest in the film "Nagasaki - In the Shadow of the Flash" for the first time as a Japanet Group company. Summer 1945. Set in Nagasaki just after the atomic bombing, the film depicts the "youth" of young nursing students who worked to provide relief to victims of the bombing. It will be released in Nagasaki on (Fri), July 25th, and nationwide on (Fri), August 1st.

■ Movie Overview
Sumi, Atsuko, and Misao are nursing students who return to their hometown of Nagasaki because their school is closed due to air raids. At 11:02 on August 9, 1945, the atomic bomb is dropped on Nagasaki city, and their daily lives with their families and lovers are completely changed. In a city that has turned into a hellish scene, there are more lives to be lost than to be saved, but despite their inexperience, they try to fulfill their mission as nursing students and as people. What did they see, feel, and think in their hometown that has become a burnt wasteland? The screenplay is based on the memoir "In the Shadow of the Flash - Notes of Red Cross Nurses Caring for Atomic Bomb Victims," compiled 35 years after the bombing by nurses from the Japanese Red Cross who provided care to atomic bomb victims.
1945 is the year we experienced the atomic bombing and the end of the war, 2024 is the year the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations won the Nobel Peace Prize and appealed to the world for nuclear abolition, and 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. Now that there are fewer people who can talk about their experiences of war and the atomic bombing, this is a story that we want to pass on to future generations.

■ The main cast sings Masaharu Fukuyama's song "Kusunoki"
Director Matsumoto Junpei, a third generation atomic bomb survivor from Nagasaki, asked Fukuyama to write the ending theme song for the film, to carry on his grandfathers' atomic bombing experience and convey peace to the next generation. Masaharu Fukuyama, an artist from the same prefecture, responded by arranging his own song released in 2014 for this film. The song is based on the "bombed camphor tree" at Sanno Shrine (Nagasaki City), which was exposed to the atomic bomb 800 meters from the hypocenter and was on the verge of dying at one point, but continues to live on with amazing vitality. The theme song, "Campus Tree - In the Shadow of the Flash - ver. (tentative)", is a version produced and directed by Fukuyama and recorded by the three nursing students, Hinako Kikuchi, Karin Ono, and Asuka Kawadoko. The new recording was also made using a vintage organ manufactured in the Meiji period that survived the destruction of World War I and World War II. In 2020, Fukuyama launched the "Camphor Tree Project" as general producer together with Nagasaki City to connect the existence of the atomic bomb-stricken camphor trees to the future, and is committed to activities to convey the strength of life and the preciousness of peace through the conservation of atomic bomb-stricken trees, the cultivation of seedlings, and support for peace education.
<Comment from Masaharu Fukuyama>
I am extremely honored to have the honor of producing and directing the theme song for "Nagasaki - In the Shadow of the Flash."
During the recording, we were able to record a "cry of life" that could only be expressed by Kikuchi, Ono, and Kawado, who lived out their roles as Sumi, Atsuko, and Misao at the time.
Many lives are lost in the film, but at the end of the film, the voices of these women, who are "witnesses to life and spokespeople for the soul," resonate, elevating the message that "souls cannot be taken away."

■ Thoughts on investing
The film is directed by Matsumoto Junpei, a Nagasaki native and third-generation atomic bomb survivor, and uses the song "Kusunoki" by Fukuyama Masaharu, who is also the creative producer of Nagasaki Stadium City. We felt a connection with this film, and as a company with Nagasaki as our hometown that is serious about peace, we decided to invest in it with the hope of contributing to the popularity of this film on this milestone of 80 years since the end of the war.
<Comment from Asahi Takada, President and CEO of Japanet Holdings>
Knowing that there are few films depicting the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, I would like this work to be seen as a piece of Nagasaki content by people living in Nagasaki, as well as people throughout Japan and the world, of all ages. This work gives a straightforward portrayal of the preciousness of peace through the story of young girls whose everyday lives are suddenly taken away in the summer of 2025, and it gives me a lot to think about and feel.
As a Japanet Group, we would like to spread the word by holding events at Nagasaki Stadium City and broadcasting on BS10.
