Nagasaki Stadium City Wins 2025 Good Design Award

We are pleased to announce that Nagasaki Stadium City has been awarded the 2025 Good Design Award.
The Good Design Award is sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (a public interest incorporated foundation) and recognizes "good design" that enriches our lives, industry, and society as a whole.

■ Overview
This super-complex building combines six functions, centered around a soccer stadium: an arena, hotel, offices, commercial space, and parking. The stadium, which will be open at all times, will become part of Nagasaki's everyday life, and during matches, it will provide new, extraordinary value as a super-complex stadium. It aims to be a new prototype for a privately-established and privately-operated building, promoting peace and revitalizing the community through the power of sports and entertainment.

■Evaluation comments from the judges
It is a privately-funded, privately-run project that utilizes the site of a former shipyard. It is a complex that combines a stadium, arena, hotel, commercial facilities, and more in an extremely dense combination, and contrary to the impression that it is somewhat crammed in to make the project viable, the actual space has been designed to allow for openness to the Urakami River and Mount Inasa. Although the site is tight and narrow, surrounded by railways and roads, it is never closed off even on days when there are no games. Light and breezes flow through, and there are ample open areas, and the high-density complex actually contributes to the overall appeal. It will become a hub that communicates the daily life of Nagasaki.
