The Nagasaki Grand Sumo Tournament Executive Committee will hold the 2026 Winter Tour "Nagasaki Grand Sumo Tournament" (Special Sponsor: Suginaga Kamaboko Co., Ltd.) on (Thu), December 3, 2026, at Nagasaki Stadium City HAPPINESS ARENA. This will be the first time the Nagasaki Grand Sumo Tournament has been held at this venue in two years, since the last event in 2024.

On the day of the event, we have planned various activities including a public training session by sumo wrestlers, a handshake session, a Q&A session, matches between lower-ranked and top-ranked wrestlers, a preliminary demonstration, sumo folk songs, drumming, the top-ranked wrestlers' ring-entering ceremony, the Yokozuna's ring-entering ceremony, and a bow-wielding ceremony.

One of the attractions of regional tours is the opportunity to see training sessions that are rarely seen at official tournaments, and to get a close look at the wrestlers' expressions. We offer a day where sumo fans, first-time spectators, and families can experience the power of sumo and the culture that has been passed down through generations up close.

Expanding opportunities to experience authentic culture and contributing to the vibrancy and tourism of Nagasaki.
Sumo wrestling regional tours are held throughout Japan with the aim of promoting the art of sumo, revitalizing local communities, and fostering youth development. Nagasaki Stadium City, the venue for this event, is a large-scale complex facility equipped with a stadium, arena, hotel, offices, and commercial facilities, attracting people for a variety of purposes, including not only watching sports but also dining, shopping, and accommodation. By holding the event at this facility, the aim is to encourage people to dine and shop before and after the event, explore the city, and enjoy sightseeing with overnight stays, thereby spreading the vibrancy generated at Nagasaki Stadium City throughout the city.
Furthermore, at the Nagasaki Grand Sumo Tournament, we will utilize the "Nagasaki City Subsidy for Creating Charming Living Environments" to provide preferential seating for Nagasaki citizens and free invitation seating for children under 18. This will provide citizens of all ages, from children to adults, with the opportunity to watch sumo wrestling and create an opportunity for them to experience traditional Japanese culture up close through the matches and open training sessions.

What is Nagasaki Stadium City?
Nagasaki Stadium City is a large-scale mixed-use complex operated by Regional Creation Nagasaki Co., Ltd., which opened on October 14, 2024. It consists of a hotel, offices, and commercial facilities, centered around the home stadium of the professional soccer club "V-Varen Nagasaki" and the home arena of the professional basketball club "Nagasaki Velca".
The venue, HAPPINESS ARENA, is the home arena of Nagasaki Velca and has approximately 6,000 seats. It is a multi-purpose arena that can accommodate a wide range of cultural and entertainment events, including sports, music concerts, Kabuki dance performances, and ice shows.

Three highlights of the regional tour
1. Watch the open rehearsal up close.
Opening at 9:00 AM, sumo wrestlers will hold a public training session. You can experience the tension of training up close, different from that of a match, by hearing the wrestlers' breathing and the sounds of their bodies colliding.

2. An event to interact with sumo wrestlers
A meet-and-greet with the sumo wrestlers is scheduled from 9:00 to 10:00. After the open practice session, there will also be a Q&A session with the sumo wrestlers.

3. A variety of performances to enjoy alongside the activities
In addition to bouts between lower-ranked and top-ranked wrestlers, the program will include sumo demonstrations, sumo folk songs, drumming, the top-ranked wrestlers' ring-entering ceremony, the Yokozuna's ring-entering ceremony, and the bow-wielding ceremony. Through these unique performances only available on regional tours, you can experience the diverse culture of sumo wrestling.
